Is there actually a way to catch the deer? I tried chasing them, towards the house to trap them on the terrain... but it was too difficult. If there isn't I'd really like there to be an alternative ending where you do manage to feed your family.
You could have added multiple endings since you kinda spoil the plot in trailer video (bloody mother with devious face) making it obvious she's something else.
How come boys didn't wonder where their brother(s) went?
I dont know why but the ending made me sad but otherwise this games creepy factor was great i really loved it. Oh! and the story was well executed too.
Today we're taking a nice little look at a game about a mother going to the store to get her family groceries. Or at least food. Maybe. Maybe nothing. Maybe something ELSE is the food...
I just wanted to say that I'm enjoying this game, and that I appreciate all the effort that you put into making it. I hope you are staying safe, that life is treating you well, and that you are doing well.
I downloaded the game, but the file keeps getting scanned by my software security program, and won't run when I try to start it up. Something about not having permission to do so
I love the game, can you tell me how much time did it take to create something of this scope? I want to make a game myself, but I don't know how high should I aim considering the fact that I want to make it all assets by myself
LOVED the game. I did encounter a very small bug though:
When you go outside, I believe your brothers are randomly placed? When I went outside for the second time, one of my brothers was standing right outside and I pressed space to talk to him immediately. When the dialogue finished, I couldn't move. Pressing the arrow keys just made my character look in a direction, but he didn't walk. Space bar still opened up dialogue with my brother.
So I restarted the game but got to where I was quite quickly so it wasn't that big of a problem.
I very much enjoyed the game and it's atmosphere. That said, I do have two small complaints. One is the lack of evolution in the dialogue. That is to say, the brothers don't react when they start disappearing. Or, when you look at your environment, even after discovering your mother's misdeeds, it still says things like "Mother's beauty is unmatched." It'd be great if it changed over time, becoming narration like "Mother's portrait isn't as pretty as you remembered." The second is the eating mechanic. By the time you need to do it to progress the story, I got stuck for several minutes. I didn't recognize the plate of food was food because the color matched the desk (the food should maybe be brighter) and there was no indication I was interacting with it when I was "eating." No chewing noises, the food doesn't start to shrink, and also the fact that I haven't eaten anything before, so I didn't know it was a thing I could do. If, on the first day, the boys were give the last of the food supply so you could practice the eating mechanic, that would've been a great help. I know this wasn't just me, as I checked other playthroughs and many other players didn't realize what was going on either.
But I thought it was great stuff. My favorite moment was when you were crawling within the walls. It almost felt like you were breaking the game, in a entertaining way.
It is pretty good for your first game. I wished it was longer.
What I liked: The premise of the story is really interesting. It is both unsettling and heartbreaking at the same time which is nice a recipe for a horror game. I think the character of the mother is well written. She talk and act like a real mother. You can clearly see she is a genuinely caring person that love her children which make this whole situation even more tragic. The soundtrack is great.
What I think could be improved: Like some other people mentions in the comment, when you eat there is no sound effect. And I think it is a bummer when you consider what the story is about. It would have make the experience even more creepy. Also, while I understand that they are not the focus of the story, the brothers don't really feel like they are real characters. They are all interchangeable and what they say doesn't change as the story progress.
Also as a side note, I found a bug where I spawned too close from one my brothers when going outside and we would both get stuck. I had to restart the game but fortunately it was only the second day.
It tells it’s story really well and I’m just a big fan of horror love the detail that has been put into it also love it’s only in 8bit it comes to show how much work can be put into 8bit games
2. Art is great! I love how the mother is painted, very beautiful.
3. I absolutely adored the hidding under the blanket mechanic. This was super amazing!
4. The ending was ironic, I liked that.
What I disliked about the game:
1. You can not actually catch anything even if it comes straight at your brothers. That would be AWESOME if it would change the scenario but it is more complicated to do.
2. The interaction for eating was unclear to me at first. Maybe it would be cool to add a sound of eating?
3. The brothers are kinds dull. Do not suspect anything, not interactable. But that is understandable, main character is the most photogenic after all))
Overall, amazing game! 5/5 on my list!
Btw it is the first game in my vid - you can check it out as well)
No bugs for my playthrough either! I only had a few suggestions, mainly (unfortunately) redoing most of the art at a higher resolution. Some things are hard to tell what they're even supposed to be (including an important story item which threw me for a loop).
I really like the story and the uneasy feeling that grows throughout the playthrough. Can't wait to see more from you guys!
Short and disturbing. Everything I love in horror games are in it! I didn't encounter a single bug/ problem. Hope to see more of your work and keep up the good work!
Spoilers beyond this point (more reviews)
1. The attention to details is amazing. Mother peeking, mother hiding from the side of the wall, opening one eye. They make me uneasy
2. The closeups works great. You know what to focus on and adds mystery why it's zoomed in
3. The walking speed really tells what the character is going through
4. I kinda laughed when our MC turned pale. I do know the reason why it happened. I guess it's the transition of zooming in and the sound effect when his face turned white
5. I find it strange why my siblings won't talk to me
6. The kids sprites are so cute!
7. Mother's drawing/ portrait art is very good plus the voice acting is great
8. The ending is a tragic one, what would our little protagonist do? he's so small
Thank you so much for your feedback! Your detailing is very helpful! This was the first game the team has done, and we are looking forward to making more in the future! <3 -Mooni

It was spooky I guess.

The ending made me feel like Ib, The Witch's house and Mad Father. Five stars for this game! I really love it!

If it's Windows, there should be a "see info" option, and then a "run anyway" option.

It took a couple months. I think you can do it! And thanks for playing (:
thank you!
El juego está bien, pero me parece que tiene un bug. La puerta no se abre después de comerme a la madre.

Glad you liked it! (: Hm, I thought I fixed that bug. Is it by chance an older download? Sorry about that!
Fantastic game. The music kept me at the edge of my chair throughout the entire game. Absolutely love the ending.
Great game! I particularly loved the music. Surprisingly creepy for an 8bit game. Will definitely keep an eye out for what comes next from you guys

I am OBSESSED WITH THIS GAME
The atmosphere, the art. just everything about it is so so amazing. I am sooo sad that it had to end!
Love love love!
A great horror game with a really dark twist at the end.
This was so good! I thoroughly enjoyed this game! Creepy and disturbing but also very engaging!
